Organizing the ultimate girls' weekend

tips for a girls' weekend

Initially, I wanted to write about why a girls' weekend is so essential every now and then. But as I opened my laptop, I thought that would be a bit of a waste of time. As if you don't already know that. It would be just as silly as explaining what maddening happiness a new bag can bring. Or a bite of Tony’s Chocolonely caramel-sea salt. So I'll skip that. But organizing a girls' weekend is still a task. Non-matching schedules, clingy kids, little money; there's always something. But it works out.

1. Book something nearby
For example, Eco Hotel Plantage Rococo located in Velsen-Zuid. Photographed by JAN and Vogue Living, so in terms of styling, it's spot on. Advantage: it's nearby. If there's really a baby screaming in the neighborhood because it misses your warm embrace, you can just jump in the car and head home. To return the next day.

2. Rent a house and let everyone fly in
This is what my friend Daan's friend did. She turned 46, didn't want gifts but treated herself to a house in Tuscany and said everyone was welcome. Some came for four days, others stayed a week. And it was amazing.

3. Rent an apartment in Ibiza
Ibiza is the island for everyone, so you won't have arguments about how to spend the holiday. One can enjoy yoga on a deserted beach, while the last one hangs out until dawn. And then you all meet again for a never-ending lunch.

By the way, these are our favorite spots in Ibiza.

4. A house in the Ardennes
Just a bit further and more adventurous than a holiday in your own country, but easily accessible by car. Call ahead to check if there's good wifi so the workaholics or the avid Tinder users can continue doing what they love most.

Girls' weekend: do's

– Respect everyone; everyone is different and try not to organize a uniform program.

– Try to find something where everyone can arrive independently, this way you avoid complaints about departure dates and so on.

– Create a piggy bank where everyone deposits a certain amount per day to cover all expenses.

– Assume in advance that everyone is different and respect that.

– And always handy to have The Great Girls' Checklist to do.

– Enjoy it!

Dont's

– Don't be irritated if someone makes you wait for a quarter of an hour. Just go ahead and see the others later, after all, it's their holiday too.

– Don't calculate exactly what your meal cost and don't demand money back just because you happened not to drink cocktails while they did. Then you shouldn't go.

– Remember this wisdom: besides saying the right thing at the right moment, sometimes it's even better to say nothing at the most tempting moment.
