People say: ‘This is why I don't want children’

people tell, no children

If you're wondering: have you wasted a lot of time on Reddit again this week? Then you can tell this: yes. I seriously thought it was a full moon or something, because I've really had quite a few sleepless nights. But well, I've been able to read enough and also come across enough interesting topics. Like the question: people who never want children, why?

I find it a very interesting question and also nice that this is being asked on a platform like Reddit, where people can give answers quite anonymously and thus be completely honest. Curious about the answers? I've listed the most remarkable, interesting, or funniest ones.

‘It's expensive and I don't necessarily want to pass on my genes.’

‘I just don't feel the need. I don't hate children. I love my nephews and nieces and really enjoy being a big part of their lives, but that also means I see how difficult and stressful it is to raise children. I understand that people really enjoy it and that it's worth it for them, but just not for me.’

‘Freedom. My husband and I would probably be pretty good parents and we are financially stable, but we feel complete with each other. We have fun together and want to be together for the rest of our lives without the responsibility and stress of children.’

‘Children? In this economy? No, I'll stick with my cat.’

‘I don't want to experience childbirth and go through all that... Adoption is a long process and costs a lot of money, money that I don't have. Children are expensive.’

‘I'm lazy. I love my free time. I love having money. I love sleeping. I've never had the instinctive feeling that I want children. I feel complete without them.’

‘They are a huge financial and emotional responsibility.’

‘I have children and never wanted children. If you don't want children, please don't have them.’

‘I want to be able to do what I want, when I want.’

‘I'll let you know the answer after my ten-hour sleep before I go to the pub.’

‘I can't even take care of myself.’

‘I don't even know if I really have a future. It feels selfish to bring a child into the world in the state that the world is in now.’

‘I have children. About 180 per school year. That's why.’

‘Bringing more people into the world just to let them suffer? Hell no, it would be very narcissistic to make such a decision.’

‘The question should be: people who want to have children, why?’

‘I don't want children because I don't need them to lead a happy life. Besides, I'm selfish and don't want to make the sacrifices needed to raise decent children.’
