Surprising facts about Max Verstappen

Were you also one of the five million who sat in front of the TV yesterday? Hoooly shitballs, what a match. I've only been watching Formula 1 since this season and I think I've chosen the right season to start with, with yesterday as the ultimate cherry on top. Verstappen finally world champion. And how. I (I think all of the Netherlands) really saw it as sad. Until that last minute. What am I saying? Until the last seconds. Sweaty hands all around for me, euphoria and shots afterwards, and a bit of a headache now. I think that sums it up well.

I thought this was a good moment to share some fun facts about Verstappen. I actually know very little about him myself, except that he is the deserved world champion of 2021. Recognizable? Here are some surprising fun facts about this man.

1. Max has a Belgian mother, so he could have represented Belgium in Formula 1. However, he chose the Netherlands because he feels more affinity with it.

2. He got started early: at the age of four, he already began karting. In 2015, he made his debut in motorsport.

3. In 2016, he was the first to cross the finish line at the Grand Prix of Spain and at just eighteen years old (and 228 days), he became the youngest winner ever.

4. He first made his debut in Formula 1 and only then got his driver's license. It's quite weird that you can race in those kinds of race cars without a driver's license. And of course, he passed it in one go.

5. Max also loves football, although I don't think he has the best taste in it. He is a fan of PSV.

6. He hasn't lived in the Netherlands for a while. His residence is Monaco, also known as the tax paradise. This also means that he races there once a year like a home game. Fun fact: about 32 percent of the Monegasques are millionaires.

7. He has been in a relationship with Brazilian model Kelly Piquet, who is 33 years old, for a while now.
