The latest episode of The Bold Type is online

Crying. CRYING. The last episode of The Bold Type is online and I find it quite intense. I already wrote earlier that I would eat my shoe if Jane became the successor of Jacqueline and editor in chief — and I meant it seriously. That would really be the worst ending ever. But now that we could see the last episodes, I have to talk about it right away. Yes, there are definitely some spoilers coming.

Because thank god Jane didn't become it. It seemed for a moment that she would, in fact: it seemed very much so, but it wasn't Jane. No way, that would really be unrealistic, right? A mega big magazine like Scarlet would go for an experienced employee like Oliver or Lauren (have we even seen Lauren after season 1, by the way?). No matter how much Jacqueline is a fan of Jane, she wouldn't do this. But she did it. And then it's Jane herself who says she's not ready.

So let me introduce you to the new editor in chief of Scarlet: Kat Edison. HUH? As in, the same ex-employee who was fired for exposing a board member? Yes, exactly that one. Now I think Kat is a much better leader than Jane, but in terms of reality, they really missed the mark here. And that Jane ends up in Paris in some impulsive action, I totally didn't see that coming.

But what we really wanted to know: do Sutton and Richard end up together? Richard was in the process of adopting a child, to which Sutton reacted very supportively. And yet he realized that nothing or no one could make him as happy as Sutton, and so the ending is good, all good. Again, not realistic, but of course I cried buckets because they ended up together again.

By the way, a fun detail: the writers themselves weren't entirely sure what should happen with Sutton and Richard. They initially wrote that their paths would part permanently, but the night before they were going to shoot those scenes, they changed their minds. And then they came up with the story that we were all hoping for: that happily ever after.

Was it the finale I was hoping for? Not entirely. I found it all quite rushed and had the feeling that certain storylines weren't wrapped up neatly. And then there's Jane packing her bags and suddenly leaving for Paris and a Kat going from fired employee to editor in chief (without any intermediate steps), I find that all a bit sloppy. But as long as Sutton and Richard are happy together, I'm happy too. And as I said: there were just tears flowing like crazy. Is it too early to start watching the whole series again? No, right?
