We need to talk about The Bold Type

First things first: I write this with pain in my heart, because I was really looking forward to it. Of course, six episodes is little — way too little — but it's better than nothing. Anyway, I wonder why it had to be canceled, but maybe it's not as popular in America as it is here. Everyone I talk to is a complete fan and I understand that. Yes, I'm of course talking about The Bold Type. And I want to talk about that, about the latest episodes that are available every Friday on Videoland. From season five, the very last season, and then it's over.
But that last season is exactly what I want to talk about. Because to get straight to the point: it absolutely does not meet my (admittedly high) expectations. I find all three girls annoying, they make stupid decisions and we have now seen three episodes (so we are already halfway) and Richard has not been on screen even once. NOT. ONCE.
Starting with Jane. Now I actually found her the most annoying of the three throughout the series, but this season she really takes the cake. You know that starting an affair with a colleague who you are the boss of is not really acceptable, and yet you go ahead with it. My only question: why? We have seen absolutely NOTHING that would make us think that Scott is a nice guy. His only character trait that we have seen is literally ‘I like Jane’. And if you were to turn it around, that it was a male boss with a female colleague, that would definitely attract a lot more criticism.
And then Kat: I am really so glad that the whole storyline around her and Eva has been wrapped up. The actress herself even spoke out about it, saying that she found it so out of character and that she didn't see that plot at all. Thank God the writers listened to her. But now? She no longer works at Scarlet and it seems like every storyline is some kind of excuse to bring her and Adena back together, which was actually the case for the past four seasons as well.
Sutton, my all-time favorite, is the only one I still find somewhat okay. I thought it was great that Jane and Kat finally acknowledged what we all knew long ago: that wedding dress was really hideously ugly. By the way, I find the whole Richard situation so strange. It's not like Richard to have someone else tell someone that he wants a divorce? I really can't see Richard doing that at all. I am really curious where they are going with these two, I was hoping they would get back together, but that seems to be getting a bit too strong now.
Okay, let's also talk about Jacqueline, because I think she's really awesome. Everyone deserves a Jacqueline as a boss. But come on, how can she accept everything that Jane (wrongly) does? The future of Scarlet? Please, say. If The Bold Type ends with Jane getting a big promotion like Jacqueline's position, I will eat my shoe. Well, figuratively speaking. I will definitely open a few bottles of wine, that's one thing that's for sure.
All in all, I just don't think it's quite the ending it deserves. We are now halfway and what have they given us in terms of storylines? Very little has happened and then they waste so many minutes on a Scott who is already at the end of his story. Jane and he are definitely not going to end up together and it's all way too short to really care about his character. Come on, The Bold Type: do better. I want to cry at the farewell.
