Too little sleep is dangerous

Woman sleeping on bed

At a quarter to ten, the big yawning started on the couch, and at ten o'clock, I was in bed with the blanket pulled up to my nose. At five past ten, I was asleep. My friend jokingly shouted that we would make up for that damage once we are out of lockdown. But is that really such a good idea? Even Elon Musk now sleeps more than four hours a night, while he used to think sleep was quite overrated.

Why is Elon suddenly doing that now? Research shows that not getting enough sleep is dangerous for your health. The best is to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, depending on how many hours you need. That varies from person to person. With too little sleep, you are first and foremost more susceptible to viral infections. I don't know exactly where you stand on this, but given this fact, I would immediately go back to bed during this pandemic time to grab another hour. Better safe than sorry, right?

Even more awkward consequences of too little sleep:

1. It can cause forgetfulness.

2. Your desire for sex decreases, and you certainly don't want that.

3. It affects how social you are, because the more tired you are, the worse your social skills become.

4. Your fight-or-flight mode gets unnecessarily activated, causing your nervous system to go haywire, which can lead to headaches, stomachaches, and in the worst case, even depression.

5. Too little sleep affects your concentration, but also your coordination, which is important if you want to drive a car reasonably well.

6. It increases the risk of a whole list of diseases that you would rather not get, such as: diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and even cancer.

7. It can even be the case that too little sleep affects your lifespan.

A great list to slide under someone's nose if they act weird about your sleeping habits. I don't know what you're still doing here, off to bed with you.
