To be completely honest, I didn't really know what to expect from Bonaire. Yes, okay: it's sunny there, but I hadn't really done my research — which I normally do. So I had absolutely no idea how big it is (very small), whether it's beautiful (absolutely), and if there are paradise-like hotels. And I can now confirm the latter, because I stayed at Harbour Village and it was truly enjoyable there.
The name says it all a bit: the hotel is set up as if it is a kind of village. Very nice, because each ‘street’ of rooms also has a street name. Bonaire doesn't have massive hotels, this is one of the larger ones on the island. But still, it feels very cozy: all the different buildings have two floors and it is surrounded by palm trees. Harbour Village also has a private beach as the cherry on top.
And that private beach is seriously one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen during my stay. You see a lot of people snorkeling there, but to be honest, I spent most of my time lying in one of the hammocks. Contrary to all (especially mine) expectations, I even visited the gym, which is also quite spacious.
Harbour Village also has a restaurant at that private beach, from where you look out over the water and regularly see the water taxis heading towards Klein Bonaire. A little paradise in the paradisiacal Bonaire.
