We give six stars to this handsome hotel in Ibiza

Last time I wrote about the trip to Ibiza with my mother and really: time flies when you’re having fun, because we are already back. By the way, I did bring the sun with me, because since we returned it finally seems to be getting a bit sunnier in the Netherlands. It was about time, of course. But on Ibiza, it was more than pleasant: we stayed at the new W Ibiza hotel in Santa Eulalia, which opened in June this year. They actually opened their doors briefly last year as well, but you can guess that it was only for a short time, because corona came back around. By the way, this was not a problem for the W hotel, it might have even worked out well, because at the W hotel they don’t believe in sitting still. On the contrary, they took it to the next level by adding not one but two hotspots to the hotel and I’m going to tell you everything about it, because this is really amazing. The hotel has five stars and I completely agree with that, in fact, I would give it six. Here they come.

When you arrive at the hotel, the entrance is immediately impressive. No simple doors that open and close, but elongated lamps that reflect the colors of the sunset. It gives you a feeling as if you are stepping into a luxury club, but once inside you immediately feel that Ibiza boho vibe through the colorful interior. You can actually see this everywhere in the hotel: from the elevator to the restrooms, everything has been thoughtfully designed in terms of interior. Be sure to take a look at the lower floor. The interior of the ‘FIT’ is actually more street style compared to the rest of the hotel. The fully orange-colored gym with graffiti walls gives you an instant adrenaline kick. Step outside this space, and you enter a white oasis of tranquility, namely: the spa. You can book all sorts of things here: a massage, manicure/pedicure, blow dry, or sauna and hammam.

The service is really top-notch, twelve points for that. From everyone I saw and spoke to, there was no one who was having a bad day. They were always friendly, cheerful, and polite. I had really thousands of questions about the hotel and the menu and they all enjoyed talking to me (or they were just very good at pretending). Are you looking for a restaurant where you want to eat? They’ll call for you and you’ll later receive a nice personal email with the confirmation or any tips if the restaurant happens to be full that evening.

We walked over a thick fluffy carpet where you could easily take a nap on the way to our hotel room. It’s always nice when a hotel has just opened; everything is new and fresh. We slept on the second floor and had a view of the pool, but also of the sea and the boulevard in front of the hotel. The balcony was one where you could easily spend the whole day, namely really very spacious. The room itself was just as much of a party as the whole hotel: crackling fresh sheets, a wonderful shower that was just the right temperature after two blinks, and an extensive drink table where you can shake your own cocktails with the accompanying recipes. I especially found that last detail really fun, even though I’m not the best cocktail shaker… At least I could practice a bit.

The centerpiece of the hotel is definitely the pool, called the ‘WET Deck’. Here, a DJ plays every day from noon. No blaring music that makes it impossible to hear each other, just a bit louder than background music, perfectly fitting the atmosphere. Relaxed, but with a bit of tempo. I love to dance, so occasionally my foot would move back and forth while we lay on the lovely bed, where my mother occasionally dozed off. You are served hand and foot, and you only had to look towards a sunbed where you wanted to lie down and clean towels were already waiting for you. The pool is filled with fun inflatable animals that you can chill on. Do you prefer a firmer surface? Then you can lie on a special bed in a small layer of water so you can also cool off a bit. If you’re more of a beach person, you just have to cross the boulevard and voila, you’re already at the beach. The beach was quite calm despite it being high season, and I personally find that ideal. You can lie on a lovely bed at Chiringuito Blue with an even better mattress. You just have to raise your hand and you can order food and drinks. They also have special children’s areas if you go there with your family, so you can leave the buckets and other entertainment at home.

Star 5
One of the newest additions to the hotel is the Glow WET Deck. This adults-only bar and pool is located on the top floor of the hotel with a view of the sea. And really, that view, you’d want to have every day. If you look closely, you can see Formentera lying there. There’s an oasis of tranquility and the almost private infinity pool completes it all. At the end of the pool, you’ll find sunbeds that you won’t see quickly when you’re up there. So a tip when you’re there: definitely walk along the pool to the front and lie down there. In the evening, you must go eat there, they serve the most delicious sushi I’ve ever had. Everything is made fresh right in front of you and you can taste it. They only have one dessert on the menu, called Mochi. I don’t know if you’ve ever had that, but it’s really an absolute must-try. They are a kind of Japanese dough balls and you get three with different flavors: raspberry, matcha, and chocolate. So delicious.

La Llama and Ve Café are the restaurants in and near the hotel, and you definitely don’t want to miss them when visiting the W hotel in Ibiza. At La Llama, you start your day, because breakfast is served there. I’m of course familiar with a buffet, but this was really next level. The restaurant isn’t very large and has an open kitchen which immediately creates a cozy atmosphere. The choice was really huge: from chia pudding to all kinds of fruit and eggs made to your liking, with everything being super fresh. No mega large platters, but small portions that were neatly refilled as soon as anything was empty. You can also dine here in the evening, where the fire in the open kitchen takes center stage and the chef uses various cooking techniques to prepare local dishes.
Ve Café is attached to the hotel: you walk through the bright blue door from the pool and you’re there. Here you can eat super delicious fresh vegetarian dishes. With everything you eat, the goal is that it’s ultra-nutritious and every dish is prepared with products from a local farm. The dishes are quite simple but super healthy and tasty for lunch. Be sure to order a Matcha Energy Ball for dessert, it’s really delicious there.
