We unconsciously choose a partner who resembles our brothers

Take a good look at your man: doesn't he resemble some of your own family members? That sounds strange and it might be, but it turns out that we choose a man who looks like our brother(s).
Choose away
The study was published in the Evolution and Human Behaviour Journal. For this, participants were asked to submit a photo of their (male) partner and of their possible brother of course you need to have a brother, but anyway. The study then continued: another group of participants was shown a photo of that woman's brother. Additionally, they were shown four photos of random other men, including the actual partner of that woman. They ultimately had to estimate who the husband would be of the woman in the study, based on the photo of her brother.
Besties
You guessed it: participants often got it right because unconsciously women choose someone who resembles their brother in appearance. At least 27 percent of the participants chose partners as the best matching face – because they look like all those brothers. They didn't see a photo of the woman in the story at all, but based solely on the picture of the brother, they could pick out those partners. Well. You can deny it and jump high and low, but you really have to take a good look at your own guy and realize that he does resemble your brother(s) a bit. Isn't that just cute?
And what's funny is: everyone always thinks that you choose someone who looks like your own father or mother. And that is still true. According to the researchers, our partners resemble our family members because we fall for their recognizability. You want someone who fits you, and therefore you automatically look for someone who matches with your family. Someone who is the same as you are. Both in appearance and personality, we seek a partner who has the same interests and resembles us. So don't be surprised if your brother and your man suddenly become besties.
