You won't get closer to the hospitality industry than this

I prefer to work in a coffee shop where you can also have a nice lunch. Laptop fully charged, long to-do list, and starting at eight with a double espresso. You wouldn't believe how much work I get done there, without needing my noise-cancelling headphones. I actually enjoy that sound, which is apparently a principle from feng shui. You have background chatter, but you don't have to engage with it because it's not meant for you. Whatever it is, I miss it. And now I suddenly saw a brilliant tip on LinkedIn. Just like you have a playlist on Spotify for babies with white noise (which sounds like an overactive extractor fan and they sleep great to it), you also have Café Sounds. You hear the clattering of cutlery in the kitchen, the sliding of plates through the dishwasher, it sounds like there are at least a hundred people around you chatting, and occasionally you hear someone laughing really hard. But everything is just not loud enough to pick up. Exactly how I like the sound in my lunch spot. It works comforting, especially if you miss the hospitality industry as much as I do. And an added bonus: it drowns out the ringing of housemates working from home.
