Fight over a hat

And how Sarah Jessica Parker got her way

And Just Like That

And Just Like That, the reboot of Sex and the City, received criticism for a thousand reasons (woke redemption, wafer-thin storylines, the abrupt death of Mr. Big), but especially the styling of Carrie was not well received. Patricia Field, the styling brain behind all of Carrie's looks, had meanwhile been signed on for Emily in Paris and had no time to also take And Just Like That under her wing. The styling was handed over to Molly Rogers. If you have been Patricia Field's assistant from the beginning, you should know the ropes, but still we see a different picture here that was not warmly received by everyone.

One of the looks that Molly created even caused a fight between producer Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker. It concerns the Oscar de la Renta dress that Carrie wears at the end of the season when she goes to a wedding and gets the Paris vision, because that is where Mr. Big's ashes will have to be scattered.

Anyway, in that scene, Molly had designed a hat. A hat that Carrie apparently also thought was very beautiful and found it hard to part with. Michael Patrick King also thought the hat was nice, really, but it was so big that it blocked the expression on her face. So fine, the hat could be worn in one scene, but not more often. Carrie, a fashion girl to her core, did not let this go and eventually it turned into a slam-down fight where Michael Patrick King, the producer, ultimately won.

But luckily there is season 2 and the hat got a second chance. It completes the Vivienne Westwood ensemble with platform heels in such Carrie-esque craziness that even Michael Patrick King could not resist. That little bit less expression on the face is compensated by the hat a hundredfold.

And when does season 2 come? Despite all the aforementioned criticism, I still can't wait. I might be a bit like Michael Patrick with the hat, although I also thought season 1 might not have been the best idea. I open the gate for a second chance in season 2.
