20 x what your single friends no longer want to hear

Having a relationship is hard work, I know that quite coincidentally from my own experience. But when I hear my single friends talk, being single and dating doesn't seem easy either, for example when they don't hear anything after a nice date with someone or are abruptly set aside after a few months of fun. Often I try to give them advice or reassure them, but to be honest, I don't always know how to respond in the right way. That's why I asked my single friends what they would rather not hear anymore. In other words: which well-meaning comments are actually incredibly annoying for singles? Well, here they come.

1. ‘If you don't hear anything anymore, it just wasn't meant to be.’

2. ‘Everything happens for a reason.’

3. ‘He/she doesn't deserve you anyway.’

4. ‘Be glad you're rid of them now.’

5. ‘Don't give up now. One day you'll really run into someone.’

6. ‘Maybe you're just too critical.’

7. ‘You need to be patient. When you least expect it, it will happen.’

8. ‘It's probably just not the right time for you yet.’

9. ‘You're still so young, plenty of time.’

10. ‘Oh, there are plenty of fish in the sea.’

11. ‘It's not weird at all to be on Tinder, plenty of people do it.’

12. ‘I think my friend still has a nice friend for you.’

13. ‘Be glad you still have all your freedom.’

14. ‘Don't worry, it will really be okay.’

15. ‘Maybe you need to adjust your expectations.’

16. ‘I just don't understand why you're still single.’

17. ‘You need to be happy yourself before you can be with someone else.’

18. ‘I think you're still single because [whatever reason].’

19. ‘Why not come out with me sometime? Then we'll look for someone for you!’

20. ‘You need to get out more often, otherwise you won't meet anyone.’
