13 x signs that you are getting an adult house

The transformation from student to working adult brings about a lot of changes, including in your home. Aside from the fact that you might now live somewhere else, there are probably a number of ‘adult’ items added to your belongings. I mean those things you used to see in your parents' house and that you suddenly own yourself. For this article, I took a little tour around my house and I share the following findings with you: thirteen signs that indicate you are getting an adult home.
1. A wine rack
As a child, I always saw a wine rack at my parents' house. That's why I probably think this is an item that really belongs in your living room. I'm not necessarily a big wine lover, but I do find such a rack very cozy.
2. Different liqueurs
Not to mention a glass cabinet, table, or cart specifically for all the liqueurs. Of course, I don't drink at all, but you should just own this as an adult. Because imagine, someone visits who likes to drink cognac, then you just have that at home.
3. A handheld vacuum
This is quite different from a vacuum cleaner. Dealing with a handheld vacuum is really therapeutic and addictive. There just comes a moment in your life when you realize it's time to get one.
4. Matching dinnerware
As a student, you naturally gathered your entire inventory, including dinnerware in all sorts, colors, and sizes. But that comes to an end when you become an adult. At least, I myself am now incredibly happy with cups that have matching saucers and all the same spoons.
5. Art on the wall
You can also tell you are becoming an adult by this: the posters on the wall are replaced by art. Moreover, you will find it increasingly enjoyable and interesting to select artworks and discover what you like.
6. Houseplants
I must honestly admit that I still can't take care of my plants, but I do have them. I also consider this a sign of maturity. People with plants seem to have everything in order.
7. A bookshelf
Another thing you inherit from home: a whole cabinet where your book collection is displayed. Even if you hardly touch them, a bookshelf is cozy and belongs in every home.
8. A dog bed
Or a cat litter box. There is a chance that as an adult, you suddenly own a pet. Certain accessories come with that, such as a bed and bowls in the kitchen for food. At our home, the dog bed (of Sjaan) is next to my side of the bed, so cozy.
9. A cabinet for cleaning supplies
During your student days, you managed just fine with only a bottle of all-purpose cleaner. Now you own a whole stock of cleaning supplies. For every problem, you have a solution, plus of course an endless supply of colored microfiber cloths.
10. A vase with flowers
For a student, there are more important things than buying flowers and then having to cut and care for them. The chance that you have a vase is also quite small. In an adult home, there are multiple vases, and buying flowers suddenly becomes your favorite activity.
11. A good coffee machine
Including a grinder, of course. As you get older, these are the things you start saving for. Every morning, I am again incredibly happy with a freshly made coffee.
12. An immersion blender
And of course many more tools that belong in an adult kitchen, such as a citrus juicer, a blender, a block with sharp knives; basically everything your parents also owned. But I really have to give a shoutout to the immersion blender (including various attachments). For my 26th birthday, I received this amazing tool, a long-held wish that you can truly do everything with. Doesn't it say enough about becoming an adult when this is what you want for your birthday?
13. A large open book
Of course, this ridiculously expensive book lies on a special bookstand. I don't have that at home, but I think it fits in an adult home. Often, such a book lies open on exactly the same page for years. They are just decorative books that we don't read a single word from.
