The very first date with your loved one, those beginning butterflies in your stomach and the special day when it becomes ‘official’: what is love (not always, but often) so beautiful. Whether you've been together for years or just started, some ‘first times’ always stick with you. Every relationship also knows the special happy moments below:
1. The very first kiss
That first kiss: you never forget that moment. You'll probably remember the first meeting too, but falling in love at first sight is simply not meant for everyone. My loved one and I took about seven months before we went on a date. I often hear that couples are friends for years before romance finally hangs in the air. Therefore, the first kiss is, in my opinion, the moment when it becomes clear that you feel something for each other.
2. The first time eating out together
Going out to eat for the first time is quite a thing, you know. Running into your crush at a club or diving into a bar together late at night is nothing compared to it. I was dead nervous for my first one-on-one date in a restaurant, but in hindsight, it was one of the best evenings ever. The first date is unforgettable.
3. The first time sleeping together
Most likely, you already had a toothbrush, a pair of contact lenses, and a new thong in your handbag in preparation, because you never know when that first sleepover will actually happen. Waking up together for the first time with neatly painted toes; how nice that you prepared everything down to the last detail?
4. The first time having sex
Well, that first time, I think it always goes a bit differently than you had in mind due to all the tension and nerves. Oh well, in any case, you never forget that moment, and if you're still together, it must have gone well.
5. The first time hearing: ‘This is my loved one’
Being introduced in public for the first time as someone's loved one is quite a milestone. Blind panic and pride alternate at such a moment. The whole world can now know that you are together: an unforgettable moment.
6. Your first shelf with stuff in his/her house
Little by little, you are marking your territory. What starts with leaving a hair tie at your loved one's house evolves into getting your own shelf with your toothbrush, underwear, and creams. I still remember that my love bought contact lens solution for me for the first time: I thought that was so sweet.
7. The first time ‘I love you’
This moment is special, vulnerable, sweet, and awkward at the same time. One person says it completely drunk for the first time, the other perhaps in broad daylight, but one thing is for sure: you never forget the first ‘I love you’. I said it for the first time on FaceTime to my boyfriend, after which I started laughing hard because I was quite shocked myself. He still talks about it, so luckily this moment was also unforgettable for him.
8. The first time making up (after your first fight)
The first fight is often a very dramatic event, where someone walks out of the restaurant or angrily leaves for home. Could this be the end already? No, not at all, because your argument made no sense. Nothing is better than the moment after, when you both realize you want to be together more than anything. And don't forget the first time make-up sex; a little happy moment.
9. The first time you feel you can be completely yourself
Often we try to present ourselves as perfectly as possible to our love in the beginning stages. This can often be accompanied by not daring to be honest about interests, passions, or ideas. But true love only begins when you can let all that go and be completely yourself.
10. The first time together in Paris
Cliché but true: almost every couple books a first weekend away to Paris. Strolling through this city head over heels in love, walking hand in hand non-stop, and becoming that mushy couple you usually detest; nothing is more romantic than the first time together in this magical place.
