This is what happened on Tinder last year

2022 is slowly coming to an end now that we have all had our ‘Spotify Wrapped’ (I would like to take this moment to thank Taylor Swift who once again personally guided me through a tumultuous year), Tinder has decided to join this trend. The popular dating app has published a ‘Year in Swipe’ where the most popular dates, attractive interests, and even the most mentioned zodiac signs are discussed. Did you spend a lot of time on Tinder last year? Then you will undoubtedly recognize yourself in the following points.

1. Dinner dates are out
According to Tinder, singles have been sticking to ‘pandemic activities’ like picnicking and walking, and there is little to be found in Tinder users' bios about dinners and drinks. Activities like karaoke, attending a cooking class together, and pottery scored high in the overview of the most popular date suggestions. It's a shame you don't get a half-naked Patrick Swayze with that last one.

2. The ‘situationship’ is in
Google describes a ‘situationship’ as a casual and non-committal relationship where that status is clearly stated. It's more than a hook-up, but not yet a real relationship. The ‘situationship’ is in 2022 the way to develop a relationship with less pressure and can now also be used as a real relationship status. Sorry, but I find this very difficult. Didn't you just have a relationship or not back in the day? I feel like a mega dinosaur at this moment.

3. The 90s are back
Look, this is a trend I can get behind. Singles from all over the world shared their love for the 90s this year by mentioning words like 90s kid, anime, and their favorite 90s songs in their bios. Personally, I'm always up for a good Backstreet Boys vs. *NSYNC debate, so I can imagine that the ice is immediately broken with this: ’Seriously, you think *NSYNC is better? Tell me whyyyyy?!’

4. Zodiac signs are hot
I've been saying it for years: how nice is it to blame the stars for things not going well in your life? I regularly throw out a ‘that snarl wasn't personal, I'm just a Cancer.’ What can someone say to that? Tinder users seem to think the same and massively included their zodiac sign in their bios last year. The most popular zodiac signs? Aries, Leo, and Pisces. Gemini and Capricorn were mentioned the least this year.

5. These interests are the most attractive
Are you feeling a bit anxious at the thought of entering 2023 without a successful match? Don't worry, I have the solution. Profiles where music, travel, and sports topped the interest list were swiped right the most. Small adjustment, big success. You don't have to mention that it involves playing your favorite music from the 2000s on repeat, draping yourself for two weeks at the edge of the pool of an all-inclusive resort, and training your chewing muscles at yet another drink, that will come up during pottery.
