More experiences from people who also hate James Corden

James Corden

It was big news this week: James Corden is no longer welcome at restaurant Balthazar in New York City. Owner Keith McNally is completely fed up with him and called him ‘an idiot of a man’ who has behaved ridiculously in his restaurants multiple times, and that is why he is no longer welcome. James Corden has since admitted his guilt and apologized according to McNally, and therefore he is now giving him a second chance. But now there also seems to be a real charm offensive from his camp, as suddenly restaurant owners are coming forward saying that James is actually a really nice guy.

Now I really don't want to say that everything on the internet is true, but many Reddit users (like me) were not really surprised by the news that James Corden would be an unpleasant guy. In various topics that have been opened over the years asking who the most unpleasant celebrity was that Redditors have ever met, he ranks at the top. Just like Ellen DeGeneres by the way; before all the stories about her came out, this was already widely known on many sites.

After the news from restaurant Balthazar, I thought: I'm going to look for experiences from people with James Corden and I must unfortunately disappoint you, because I could find very few positive anecdotes. There were indeed quite serious ones, and also funny ones. For example, James did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit in 2019 that went down in history as one of the most derailed AMAs ever, because people only shared bad experiences with him and he therefore left this AMA prematurely.

A bit of background information: in 2019, people working in his field, such as writers for late-night shows, cameramen, and producers, were quite furious with him. James Corden had shown up for his show at a meeting about writers, where he then made a plea (for all these writers) saying that they should earn less. This group mainly consisted of assistants and starters who already earn very little (because they mainly do it for the ‘experience’ and the hope of advancing in this profession). A very strange request, which James Corden was not thanked for. Want to know more about that? Read all about it here.

Okay, on to this AMA. These experiences have not been fact-checked, so we can't be sure that they are all really true.

1. ‘Hey James. You probably won't remember me, but my friends and I were at a table next to you, Harry Styles, and some others at Manchurian Legends in Chinatown, London, about six years ago. We didn't disturb you, but you were a gigantic arrogant jerk who was just shouting and treating the staff like crap. When someone from my group politely suggested that you could tone it down a bit, you became extremely aggressive and threatening (in a chubby way, like a drunk panda). So my question is: why did Harry come across as so relaxed while you were such a loud jerk?’

2. ‘Hi James, you haven't answered many questions yet. Maybe you're busy with your phone. Anyway, is this article true and did you eventually pick up your own baby or do you really expect your wife to do everything?’

3. ‘What a jerk he is in real life. I was at a recording of League Of Their Own and he kicked up multiple fusses over small things in front of the production. He was so rude, which made the other attendees extremely uncomfortable. When the recording was over, fans wanted to take a picture with him but he snapped at them to go away and stay seated, and then he went to the VIP area. Having seen him, I now know that everything you see of him on TV is a made-up person. His real personality is just a completely self-absorbed jerk.’

4. ‘Hi James, my favorite moment of you was when Jimmy Kimmel beat you during Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts because you didn't know a single name of a cameraman from your own show. Have you ever thought about not being a jerk?’

More experiences? There are several topics dedicated to this, like this one: ‘What is your personal story of James Corden being a prick?

Well, whether he is really such a jerk in real life, I don't really know, but I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes just like an Ellen DeGeneres story. But on the other hand: as a big Harry Styles fan, I can't imagine Harry would associate with such an unpleasant person. Has anyone here happened to meet him? I fear we need more anecdotes to come to a judgment.
