These are our predictions for the Michelin stars 2022

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: these are our predictions for the Michelin stars 2022.

Oh dear, the tension is high in culinary Netherlands. Because on Monday, May 30, it will be announced which restaurants will receive Michelin stars and who will have to give up their stars. Of course, there are experts who think they know which way the star rain will go. Online magazine Kokswereld spills the beans: ‘Vermeer definitely has a chance at a second star.’

The experts from Kokswereld don't just say anything: they look at the ratings from the restaurant guides Gault&Millau and Lekker. Moreover, they know their regulars, they know exactly what the Michelin inspectors pay attention to and how they deal with, for example, chefs who move and restaurants that have terrible bad luck, through no fault of their own. Like the Treeswijkhoeve in Waalre, which was hit by a major fire. After three months, they reopened, Kokswereld gives them a good chance that Michelin will be favorable towards them.

Wine cellar smoked
Tough luck for restaurant 212 in Amsterdam, the culinary love child of top chefs Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot and sommelier Daphne Oudshoorn. The chairs were floating through the restaurant after a major fire, just like the Treeswijkhoeve. The stock in the wine cellar was also severely damaged by smoke and water. But the men are taking their time to tidy things up again, and it’s questionable whether Michelin has that much patience. They might lose their two stars...

Proving again
This also applies to De Basiliek, the top spot in Harderwijk. Owners Rik and Tabitha will hand over the place to employee Yornie van Dijk next month. He can also cook quite well, he has already worked at other top establishments and has been the chef at De Basiliek for more than three years now. Will the star remain on the facade or will Yornie have to prove himself again?

Also at other restaurants with a star on the facade, such as Oonivoo in Uden and The White Room in Amsterdam, a new chef has entered the kitchen. For Lekker and Gault&Millau, that was no reason to adjust their rating, but maybe Michelin is a bit stricter, you never know.

Out of the blue
Are the experts from Kokswereld tipping any new stars in the firmament? Certainly: restaurant Flore currently has no star, but both Lekker and Gault&Millau were super enthusiastic about the new restaurant. A star would be deserved here, but it doesn’t come completely out of the blue; this is the new name plus new formula for restaurant Bord’Eau, which already had a star.

Tips
Other insider tips from Kokswereld: Pikaar in Hilvarenbeek, Studio in Maastricht, Julemont in Wittem, and Lizz in Gouda. If they get a star, we’ll give a thumbs up to Kokswereld. Contenders for a second star: Vermeer and Vinkeles in Amsterdam, Bij Jef in Den Hoorn (Texel), Merlet in Schoorl, and De Leuf in Ubachsberg.

For those keeping track of the statistics: the Netherlands currently has two restaurants with three Michelin stars, 18 restaurants with two stars, and 93 restaurants with one star. Until Monday, May 30, then everything could look completely different.
