Cannes travel guide

This year I have really fallen a bit in love with the Côte d’Azur. It wasn't the first time I was there, but I can now truly say that I got everything out of it that I could. My first stop: Cannes. I had only been there for one day when I was sixteen, so I assumed it would have changed a lot. Well, it has. And in a positive way: what a lovely city, I must say. Of course, I’m sharing my favorite tips with you, because I’ve eaten and drunk a lot.
Where to sleep
Hotel Le Cavendish
This is where I slept and it was really delightful. Divine beds, a nice balcony with a similar view, good breakfast and: free drinks and snacks every day around happy hour. What a great place this is.

Five Seas Hotels
If you prefer to sit by the beach later, this is a real recommendation. Especially for me, since I don’t swim in the sea (long story, something with a phobia of fish); they have a lovely rooftop pool here. The rooms are beautifully bright and the restaurant is also very good.
Hotspots in Cannes
La Tonnelle
Very special: this is the only restaurant on Île Saint-Honorat, which you can reach by ferry. Furthermore, only monks live on this island, so be sure to walk around the entire island, the monastery, and the vineyards. The restaurant is truly beautiful, with a nice view and good food.
Aux Bons Enfants
I really love the cozy streets in the center of Cannes. Here you have Rue Meynadier which is very nice to walk down, and then you eventually end up at this restaurant. A real recommendation for both lunch and dinner. Do make a reservation, as it is a popular spot in Cannes.
La Môme Plage
The beach is of course a must-visit in Cannes. Now, I’m not really into sunbathing on the beach, but I do enjoy lunching and dining on the beach even more. We did that at this spot. A slightly hip crowd, but very good sushi and not as loud music as the other places on the beach. In fact: there was a live guitarist with us. Love it.
La Palme d’Or
If you want a truly fine dining evening, this place is perfect; they have two (!) Michelin stars. Additionally, the location is also incredibly beautiful, with a view of the sea and palm trees right in front of you. Do dig deep into your pockets, but it’s truly an experience.
La Table du Chef
The terrace here is so cozy (do make a reservation), really ideal for summer evenings. A light lunch is quite handy, as the four-course menu is really a recommendation here. Good food, not too much fuss, for a very reasonable price. I love that.
La Guérite
Besides Île Saint-Honorat, you can also go to the island Île Saint Marguerite. The latter is a lot larger, and there you will find this restaurant. On the menu, you will find Mediterranean dishes and the view here is also incredibly special. It’s a bit ‘hipper’ than La Tonnelle, with more music and more of those ‘beach club vibes’.
La Sousta
A very simple but nice restaurant. The menu, where you will find Mediterranean dishes, changes with the season. No foams of this and emulsions of that, but for example well-filled plates with black spaghetti with prawns or crème brûlée.
Il Viaggio
In the mood for an authentic Italian evening? That’s perfectly fine in Cannes. You just have to go to this spot and make a reservation in advance. And make sure you’re hungry, because you want to try everything on the menu here. From the burrata to the gnocchi, of course a risotto and actually also a nice piece of fish.
Citronelle
If you’ve had enough of all those plates of pasta, sushi, lobster or whatever — then stop by here for lunch. It’s a very simple place with a lot of salads (and sandwiches). Close to the beach too, so a great stop in between.
