Are there more calories in a glass of champagne or in a glass of wine?

By

A question you always wanted to know the answer to, I understand that. So that's why I looked it up for you.

Champagne or wine? What is the smartest choice calorie-wise?

I’ll start by swearing a bit in the hospitality church. Because, shhh: I secretly don’t like champagne. I find it dry, sour, and too fizzy. Sorry. I’m obliged to toast with a glass at a diploma or New Year’s Eve, but then it’s over. My friends who do like bubbles will want to disinherit me now, but sometimes it has to be, being honest.

I don’t want it. I’d much rather have a good glass of Chardo. Wood, butter, full: that’s more my cup of tea. Am I being smart about gaining or losing weight with that? Are there more calories in champagne?

150 milliliters of dry white wine contains 101 calories and 150 milliliters of champagne about 97 calories. It doesn’t make much difference, but here’s the catch. You often drink champagne in a smaller glass: one of those fancy flutes, you know them. And usually, only a maximum of 85 milliliters fits in there. So if you look at which glass has fewer calories, champagne is your better choice. If you pour the same amount of both into equally sized glasses, then the choice doesn’t matter much.

I’ll go for a coupe with Chardonnay to ring in the new year. Smaller glass, nicer drink. Don’t let my friends see it.
