We joked about it in the editorial office: 2023 was really the year of terrible dating trends. From slow dumping to cookie jarring and from situationships to delusionships; singles have had a tough time this year. To take a moment to reflect on that and to prepare for the new year, I have already dived into the dating trends of 2024, just so you don’t have to navigate the dating jungle completely blind. I may be single-girl-off, but if there’s one thing you can always count on me for, it’s that I will do everything I can to make your single life a little easier. It’s girl code.

Val-core dating
According to the popular dating app Bumble, val-core refers to the rise of people who value commitment to issues that are important to them. For 25 percent of Bumble users, it’s important that their partner is actively engaged in politics and social issues. It even makes them more attractive. Having the same norms and values (or: values) is going to be hot this coming year.

Intuitive intimacy
Emotional intimacy is no longer something you’re afraid to ask for in the new year. In fact, it seems that attraction nowadays comes down to having emotional intimacy. According to Bumble, singles are focused on finding security, safety, and understanding, with more than 35 percent of respondents believing that emotional intimacy is now more important than sex and that it’s even more attractive than physical connection. The more you know…

Open-hearted masculinity
Closed-off men with fear of commitment, shave away; men with a heart full of love will be welcomed with open arms in 2024. According to Bumble, 25 percent of men worldwide indicate that they have actively changed their behavior, making them more vulnerable and open than ever before to the people they are dating. For 26 percent of men, this openness has had a positive impact on their mental health, and we can only applaud this.

MVP (most valuable partner)
Okay, this is one of those moments when I’m very happy with a partner who has more or less accepted my unsporty nature. A shared love for sports would be the way to meet the love of your life in the new year, according to Bumble. This is because about 73 percent of the profiles studied on Bumble contain a sports interest badge. Well, nice. Just don’t call me.

Consider dating
Also known as slow-dating. Singles want nothing more than to have a little peace of mind, and I get that. Taking it slow and not worrying about the traditional timeline of dating is therefore the way to get to know each other slowly. This way, you take good care of yourself in that oh-so-bumpy search for love and you can be sure to take the time to let your fresh relationship blossom without burning out yourself.
