A situation-what? Yes, a situationship, a term that has become hard to miss. It seems to be a kind of trend in the dating scene to be involved in at least one or more situationships. And this is really not always about roses and moonlight, because such an ‘unofficial relationship’ can secretly be quite intense. You can read the reasons below.

Let me first explain what such a vague situationship actually entails. It is actually a kind of gray area between friends with benefits and a real relationship with the motto ‘we'll see where it goes’. Therefore, you are not really tied to each other, but you also can't behave completely like a wild single anymore. So it's quite a vague title, which makes it somewhat complicated at times.

Unpredictable
What makes a situationship so much more intense than a normal relationship is that you are much more emotionally involved. Because the status between you and your lover is still so unclear, it makes it incredibly unpredictable. You can end up in a relationship from one day to the next, but it can just as easily end. This keeps you constantly confused with your emotions and makes it very intense.

A lot of tension
You may not have heavy obligations to each other, but you still share a certain connection with each other. This creates extra tension; will that person text you first? When will the other ask me out on a date? Well, you just have to have the patience for that. One thing is for sure: it keeps everything interesting and exciting.

No clear rules
You determine what the rules are. And for some, this freedom works perfectly, but for others, it can be very confusing. It could happen that you are completely head over heels and the other sees it more as a casual thing and is still swiping on dating apps. That can be very painful if your expectations were just a little different. Therefore, it is important to make clear agreements about this in advance, because otherwise, it is guaranteed to be a hassle.

All in all, such a situationship does not always end well and can cause you a lot of confusion, but if you are open to some tension and adventure in your dating life, then it might be something for you. Who knows.
