Delightful Dutch romcom: Happy Single

Aaah, a movie with a title close to my heart. I am absolutely Happy Single, but I wouldn't mind a movie called Crazy Cat Lady either. Maybe that will come someday; for now, I am very happy with this new addition. Because do we ever get enough of Dutch romcoms? Ab-so-lutely not. To be fair: we have had a few misses here and there (I still have nightmares from Just Say Yes), but this one looks like a sincere, nice movie. It makes me happy,
So Happy Single, which will be in theaters on September 21, starring Juvat Westendorp and newcomer Jamie Grant in the lead role, along with a whole bunch of familiar faces: Manuel Broekman and Barbara Sloesen, to name a few. It is from the same creators as Zwaar Verliefd! and Alles Is Zoals Het Zou Moeten Zijn, two films I also seriously enjoyed, so you know it’s going to be good.
In Happy Single we see how Mollie (Jamie Grant), a psychologist with expertise in divorces, just can't seem to find a man. However, she is already prepared for that: she doesn't believe in true love and all that soulmate nonsense. Until she runs into the handsome Otis at the local pub Lombok (fun fact: this movie was filmed in Utrecht, so it will have many familiar settings for a lot of people), whom she finds quite attractive.
But Mollie is of course Happy Single and someone like Otis doesn't quite fit into that picture. I don't need to tell you that the chance of Mollie and Otis ending up together is exactly one hundred percent, but hey: we don't watch Dutch romcoms for surprising plot twists. For a delightful movie night without having to think about it, yes. Looking forward to it, and from September 21 it will be in theaters.
