Everything about the SAG Awards 2023

The awards season is far from over; last night the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were presented. They may not sound as popular as the Golden Globes, but it’s still a big deal if you win one. The SAG Awards are seen as a sort of predictor for the Oscars taking place in two weeks: definitely a big deal. Actors like Zendaya, Jennifer Coolidge, and Austin Butler walked the red carpet, and of course, there’s plenty to talk about.
Let’s start with Selena Gomez, who couldn’t be physically present but was nominated for the series Only Murders in the Building. After she deleted all her social media accounts last week, people immediately assumed it had something to do with that, but no. Selena is currently in New York shooting the third season of the series, which is why she simply couldn’t be there. However, she did appear during the show’s opening in a filmed sketch, alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. As always with these kinds of awards, it was nicely done in an American style; I personally got a bit of Disney Channel vibes from it.

Zendaya was nominated for her role in Euphoria for best female lead in a drama series. As usual, she looked stunning, but unfortunately without Tom Holland by her side, which I always find a bit disappointing. The two have expressed in an interview that they want to keep their relationship as private as possible, which is why they don’t appear hand in hand at award shows. Pffff.
The film Everything Everywhere All at Once was the big winner of the night with no less than five nominations and four awards. Unbelievable. The mega-popular series The White Lotus also managed to snag an award, namely for best ensemble in a drama series. For a moment, it seemed there was drama on stage: Audrey Plaza almost had a wardrobe malfunction, and judging by her expression, she didn’t appreciate it. Twitter obviously feasted on this; was the actress looking so grumpy because of that, or was something else going on?
I know Aubrey Plaza high as hell on that stage rn pic.twitter.com/caYv5aUyWU

The most remarkable moment of the night was Brendan Fraser stepping back onto a stage after a long time. Due to his statements about sexual abuse against an old Hollywood director, he has withdrawn for years, but he’s back. Brendan was nominated for best male actor for his work in The Whale, and of course, he won it. You just want that for the guy, and I wasn’t the only one, as he was definitely a real crowd favorite on social media.
Of course, the SAG Awards come with some amazing looks, so here’s a compilation of my favorites:
1. Zendaya

2. Cara Delevigne

3. Jenna Ortega

4. Jaimie Lee Curtis

5. Austin Butler
