Free the nipple: going braless is the trend of 2023

Now, I'm not the hardest to please when it comes to blindly following all the latest trends, but I must say that this trend already has a piece of my heart. Going braless has never been so in as it is now, and I am all for it. Why would you torture yourself all day with a much too tight (often not even well-fitting) torture device when you can just not do it? I already wrote that the summer of 2023 is seen as a new ‘summer of love’, in which we celebrate the freedom to embrace our bodies and defy social norms, and this trend is yet another watertight proof of that.
The shedding of our bras is, just like the summer of love, nothing new. In the late ‘60s, women all over the world already formed a strong movement to demand equal rights and freedom of expression. Burning their bras became a symbol of resistance against the limitations imposed on them by society. Women stood up for their right to be themselves, without being judged on their physical appearance. If time travel is ever invented, I would love to book a round trip to this moment.
Now, more than half a century later, the fight for gender equality is not yet fully won, and we see a renewed wave of empowerment emerging. In 2023, the streets are flooded with a new generation of women who choose to go through life without a bra. This choice is once again fueled by a desire to embrace themselves, independent of expectations or judgments from others, but is also made from comfort and fashion considerations. Doing what YOU want: that's what it's all about.
The rise of social media has also played a crucial role in spreading this trend. People use Instagram and TikTok to share their body positivity and self-love and go viral with hashtags like #FreeTheNipple and #NoBraMovement.
Whatever your reason, the girls and I hope this trend lasts a long time, because let's be honest: is there a better feeling than having them hang ‘loose in the blouse’ every now and then? (I stole this remark from a friend and I find it deliciously wrong.) Do you feel a bit of FOMO when it comes to the No Bra Movement, but are your boobs not quite ready for free play? Then take a look at this boob tape from Litchy, with this you can leave your bra at home, but you don't have to be afraid of a Janet Jackson-at-the-Super-Bowl-in-2004 moment. You’re welcome!
