The hilarious reason why Ryan Gosling said ‘yes’ to the role of Ken

Mark my words: Ryan Gosling is going to get an Oscar nomination for his role as Ken, in the movie Barbie. That he is at least being put forward has already been announced this week, but I am a hundred percent sure that he is going to get that nomination as well. By the way, there is also a slightly less cheerful reason for this: the strikes in Hollywood are still ongoing, which means that actors are not allowed to promote their work, and as a result, many films are being postponed. For Ryan Gosling, this is therefore a blessing in disguise; Barbie was released before the strikes and as a result, he simply has less competition than will be the case in another year.
By the way, I think that nomination is completely justified anyway, because he is really a joy to watch as Ken. And to think that he initially doubted whether he wanted to take on the role. Whut? As if we had seen anyone else as Ken? That role is just made for him.
Ryan Gosling was immediately impressed by the script: ‘The best script I have ever read.’ Lost in thought, he walked into his backyard, where he — as if it was meant to be — saw a Ken doll of his daughter lying in the ground, face down.
And that was the moment he thought: I must play Ken.
He sent director Greta Gerwig a photo of that poor Ken with the text: ‘I shall be your Ken, for this story must be told.’ And the rest is history. And the world fell even more in love with Ryan Gosling, as if that was still possible.
