11 times when your mother is your best friend

My mother is one of my best friends. She knows everything about me and I know everything about her. Although I must admit that this hasn't always been the case. I was the most terrible teenager ever – if I may say so myself – who expressed all her frustration and anger towards her mother, resulting in daily fights for three years. Meanwhile, the storm in my head has calmed down, and that is also noticeable in our mother-daughter relationship. A few years ago, I was sitting in front of my psychologist saying that I couldn't even think about doing something together with my mother, and now there's nothing I would rather do. As soon as there's a spot free in my schedule, she's the first person I call. And this is the same vice versa. Is your mom also your bestie? Then the following points will probably sound very familiar to you.
1. She knows everything about your love life
Had a terrible first date? Your mother gets to know all the details, whether she wants to or not.
2. She is the first person you call with good news
No, not your partner or your best friend; they can wait a bit longer. You want to hear your mother's reaction first.
3. Your friends think she's fantastic
Although this compliment is actually meant for your mother, it feels that way for you too. Go mom.
4. You never stay mad at each other for long
Sometimes you fight like crazy, but big arguments are rare. After at most ten minutes, it's already resolved.
5. You are flooded with messages daily
You wake up to a ‘slept well?’, start your workday with a ‘good luck today!’, and end the day with a ‘goodnight sweetheart’. Lovely, right?
6. Every gossip is discussed
Whether it's about friends, aunts, or colleagues; mothers find out everything. After all, she won't pass it on.
7. You borrow her clothes
Every now and then, your mother has something in her closet that you think: I’ll take that, and it often happens to be the most expensive item she owns.
8. You prefer shopping with her
At least you get an honest opinion on whether those jeans really look good on your butt. With a bit of luck, she says: ‘Both halves?’
9. She solves all your problems
Or well, ultimately you do it yourself, but it was your mother who came up with a solution.
10. You binge the same shows
De Verraders, Special Forces, MAFS: it's all on your watchlist. And don't even think about watching an episode ahead of the other.
11. She likes and comments on all your photos
She may respond with a bit fewer hearts, but hey, at least someone is reacting.
