I have written before about my good intention from last year and this year. Although I dare to say that it is no longer just a good intention, but a real change in my habits. Here’s the thing: until a few years ago, I really did very little in terms of skincare. Shockingly little. And then I suddenly turned 30 and felt quite anxious about getting older (hello Peter Pan syndrome) and wanted to turn things around and be a bit kinder to myself — and take better care of myself. The first step: investing in good skincare and regularly getting a good facial. I have been keeping this up for over a year and a half now, and I find it a true celebration every time to be pampered and to go outside with a glowing skin.

But I am still far from an expert, I realized that again last week. I was back at my now regular place for a facial, BLOY Institute in Amsterdam, and there I was again faced with an eye-opener. I have been here more often for The Hollywood Buccal Facial treatment which I find absolutely amazing and many celebs swear by. I understand why, because I saw quite a lot of change after just one session.

So I thought I was doing well in terms of skincare and facials, until I was allowed to have a scan done there so they could see how my collagen was doing. Spoiler: not so great. Did I take collagen? Uh, no... Did I use the right creams that contained bovine collagen? No idea. It quickly became clear that I was a collagen newbie, and it became clear to me that collagen is indeed very important for your skin.

Collagen provides firmness and elasticity to your skin, and as you age, you lose more and more collagen. You can take it as a supplement (so that it is ‘replenished’ from the inside), but applying it through creams works wonders as well, especially for those fine lines that I definitely do not want.

But I wasn't doing completely badly, by the way, because I have been using The Night Formula from Labareau, which is packed with collagen, almost identical to the collagen in our body.

Do you also want to know how your collagen level is doing? You can get a free scan at BLOY Institute. Super interesting to see, and it made it very clear to me which skincare I should be using. Highly recommended!
