Great news: Meet our new colleague Lysanne

We have quite a knack for keeping people with us for a long time at Amayzine. ‘Until our retirement’ is what we usually say. Of course, that never really works out, but sticking together for a long time is definitely the goal. Or leaving and coming back, like Lysanne, our former intern who is now working with us as an incredible slasher. And at Franska and at Amayzine and as a designer and as a social media manager and oh, name it and she can and does it. Time for an introduction.

Lysanne, dear Lys, tell me, how did you ever end up at Amayzine?
‘Oh May, we're really going back in time... I used to have quite a few magazine subscriptions and I also loved reading various things online. One day I stumbled upon Amayzine. I think I followed you/you all for about two years before I sent my first application letter.’

What made you think: I want to come back?
‘If someone asked me what my favorite period was during my studies, Amayzine always came up, and recently I spoke to Manouk a bit more and I told her that too. She then said: ‘But Lys, why don't you just send an open application now?’

What is your background and education?
‘I did an MBO course in design and concept development and I have worked in retail since I was sixteen; from sales to visual merchandising to management.’

What makes your heart race?
‘Planning a new trip and of course a good Vinted find, haha.’

You are a Frisian girl in Amsterdam. Was it an adjustment in the big city?
‘Phew, I think I had already prepared myself so much to live here that it only dawned on me later how big the change was. My boyfriend always tells me when we're cycling together that I bike like a true Amsterdammer, in a hurry, haha. That doesn't take away from the fact that I still really enjoy seeking out the calm, but as soon as we ‘ride back into our street, I know I'm home.’

Name three places in Amsterdam where we can find you on the weekend.
‘Walking through the city. Sometimes we end up at one of our favorite spots to eat and other times we look for a nice market. At home, just being cozy and spending time with family. The 9 Streets. Even after I worked here myself, I still find it very nice to shop and have coffee here.’

If money, work, time difference, and other practical matters didn't matter, what would your ideal weekend look like?
‘Oh, it would be a long weekend, haha. Flying to a beautiful island in Asia, swimming a lot and meeting new people, trying local food, because there are always such special dishes among them. Ending the day again on the beach; I love the feeling of hearing the waves break on the sand in the dark.’

You really love your home and your nice spot, do you have any interior tips?
‘We have a lovely little Amsterdam apartment, but I am very proud of how we have been able to create a cozy, snug place here, even with two totally different styles. My tip? Ensure a good foundation and don't buy everything at once. Sometimes it takes a while before you find the perfect table or chairs, but when you find that pair from your Pinterest board, believe me, you'll be glad you didn't place your order at IKEA.'.

Finally, what can we expect from you in the coming time?
‘I think it would be really fun to be able to write as well, so I hope that in a while, a post from me can appear from time to time. Furthermore, I will ensure that you get even more insight into all the fun things we experience at Amayzine.’
