Are you also going broke at the sale?
May is trapped in the sales hype

‘Just one more and then I’ll stop.’ Me, while I’m checking out yet another discounted dress. Another white one, yes. But this one is loose. With ruffles. And with three-quarter sleeves; the other one had long sleeves. Actually, I’ve been trapped in the madness called the sale since April. It starts with the coveted cards that boutiques send to invite you to the ‘exclusive presale’. Then I drag my mother along and we head to Pauw, our favorite. You can’t really make a bad purchase there, but it doesn’t stop there. Then Net-a-Porter comes with their ‘promotions’ and every day a fresh newsletter with new items added to the sales collection. Vanessa Bruno, such a lovely French brand that knows how to find me. And good old Isabel Marant of course. Meanwhile, Ralph Lauren also knows how to find me with, yes, an extra splash of discount and yes, since I’m already shopping for the kids, I’ll order a shirt for myself with a cute bear on it. And when I’m sitting comfortably on the couch with a cup of tea, I’ll quickly browse through the shelves of Pauw and find another dress that I had missed. A white one, yes. But very different. The last one, really.
