Sex on a first date, that can't really be right, can it? At least, you would almost believe that most singles think that way, but nothing could be further from the truth. A study by Lovehoney shows that 49 percent of people have had sex on the first date. That ‘I never do this’ speech at the end of your tête-à-tête is mostly complete nonsense.

The study also looked into the reasons why people chose to end the first date in bed. About 53 percent of the participants indicated that they did it because they simply felt like it, while 46 percent said they preferred to immediately determine whether someone is sexually compatible with them. The people who say they never have sex on the first date mostly wait until date three, or even longer. The rule in this story is actually that there is no rule. Just do what feels right for you and know that sex on the first date can even be good for you.

Sex on the first date can boost confidence and break old beliefs that say sex is something to be ashamed of. These beliefs are actually never based on facts, but more on personal prejudices. Good news for when the emotions run so high at the first meeting that you both can't wait, but no matter how good it can be for you: it's important that you never feel pressured to have sex on your first date. Sometimes your date might want to, but you don't. Always be honest about how you feel and try not to use sex to make someone like you more on a first date; you are already likable enough.
