These are the 20 cutest names for your summer baby

By

Hey expectant parent of a summer baby, are you still holding up with the heat that we all hoped for so hard, but are now also a bit annoyed by (because hello hot flashes, chafing thighs, and sweat mustaches)? Luckily, the end is in sight and within now and a few months you will have your brand new summer baby in your arms. I am also a summer baby myself. My mother gave birth to me on July 1, 1993, in the sweltering heat (it was about 40 degrees), her first daughter, and I completely understand why she didn’t give me a summery name that would remind her of that experience for a lifetime. It’s a bit of a shame, because how fun is it to name your child after the season in which he or she is born? I am, even though I am not a mother yet, a big fan of this idea and I would love to share my favorite summer baby names and their meanings with you:

Summer
I hope I don’t have to explain this.

Daisy
Or of course Madelief, the sweetest summer flower in the country.

Isla
Isla means ‘island’. You pronounce it as ‘aailaa’ and I think it’s quite a unique name in the Netherlands.

May
For when your baby is born in May. I don’t care how obvious this is, I think it’s a beautiful name.

June
Or Juna/Juno for your June baby. There’s no way your child with this name won’t be the coolest kid in school later.

Julia
Okay, naming your child July or Juli might be a bit much, but Julia is a beautiful variation for your July baby. Julia comes from the name Julius, which is derived from the Roman god Jupiter after whom the month of July is named. If that’s not a full circle moment...

Julian
The male counterpart of Julia and very popular in the Netherlands.

Kira
Kira (or Kyra) means ‘sun’ in Persian and ‘light’ in Latin. I actually never see it written with an i, but I must say: I’m a fan.

Kai
Kai means ‘sea’ in Hawaiian. Not a fan of Kai but still want to give your child a name derived from the ocean? Dylan means ‘sea’ in Welsh. Perfect for expectant parents who have something with water and let’s be honest: how cool is Dylan also for a girl?

Iris
Iris we all know as a flower, but did you know it also means ‘rainbow’? In Greek mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow. If that doesn’t ensure a powerful and cheerful child, then I don’t know what will.

Juniper
I see this name coming up more and more often and rightly so: Juniper is a fresh, energetic name that means ‘young’. It can be associated with the new beginning that spring and summer bring.

Jasmine
A flower that looks beautiful in the summer and an incredibly beautiful name for a radiant summer baby.

Talia
Talia means ‘to bloom’ in Greek.

Suvi
A variation of the increasingly popular name Suki. Suvi means ‘summer’ in Finnish.

Posy
Posy means ‘a small bundle of flowers’ and is a too sweet name to give to your new bundle of love.

Luca
This Italian name has become much more popular in recent years. Luca is derived from the Latin word lux, which means ‘light’. Is it just me or is Lux actually also a really nice name?

Dahlia
Another beautiful summer flower. You can spell it as Dahlia or Dalia. I didn’t know it was like that, but I suddenly really have a thing for elegant flower names.

Elio
Yeah, no way, this is just too cute. My boyfriend will have a fit when he reads this, so don’t tell him, but I’m getting all the butterflies from all these sweet baby names. Elio means ‘sun’ and is the perfect example of a not too obvious summer baby name.

Rae
Or Ray, whichever you like best. It means ‘sunbeam’ and as far as I’m concerned, it’s really an incredibly cool unisex name.

Kyran
A mega cool boy's name that means ‘ray of light’ or ‘sunbeam’. Was someone looking for a cool name with a summer touch? Then you’ve found it.
