The pepernoten are in the supermarket, the evenings are getting long (at least, they seem longer because it gets dark earlier) and everything begs for cozy evenings on the couch by the fireplace. Enjoying a Sinterklaas movie together on the couch, singing songs by the fire... There are ways to keep it just as cozy while also saving on costs.

Watch a movie on the iPad
It uses much less energy than your large TV screen and how cozy is it to snuggle up together on the couch under a blanket? Movie tip: The Great Sinterklaas Movie, which is of course very cozy but also has some nice energy-saving tips that make sustainability easier. I sometimes find it quite difficult to explain to my children why shorter showers are better for the planet. In the movie, adjustments are also made to the steamship so that it is a bit kinder to the world. The movie is currently playing in theaters, a fun outing for the whole family


Celebrate it together
It's definitely much cozier to celebrate Sinterklaas (or Christmas) with all the cousins and nieces, but that way you only have to heat one room instead of all those different living rooms.

Thick socks
What a lovely gift for winter. Give each other cozy, thick socks. Preferably hand-knitted. Then the heating can be turned down a degree. It's also nice to give each other a special pair of winter socks every year so that a new tradition is created.

Do it yourself 
In the end, attention cannot be bought and that makes it the most precious thing to give. Bake cupcakes yourself instead of buying a kilo bag of pepernoten, wrap the gifts yourself (I often buy very basic wrapping paper, draw a Sinterklaas scene on it, and stick pepernoten on it) and it's even more fun if you make the gifts yourself. Who knows, you might make a patchwork blanket from old scraps that you can snuggle under on the couch, or you make those warm socks.

It feels good that we are conscious about energy.

Have warm holidays. Just as cozy as before, but just a little bit in a 2023 outfit.
