This is what the location of your pimples says about your health

A face without acne sounds to me like winning the lottery. Something that will probably never happen to me. After years of trying every miracle product, I found out that it is hormonal. It comes from within. And that makes it quite complicated, because how can I know what the internal cause of my impurities is? Well, there is a little helper for that: facemapping.

With this ancient Chinese medicine, you can determine what the cause of your acne is, depending on the location where it occurs. Because this outdated technique has never been scientifically proven, the well-known skincare brand Dermalogica has come up with a renewed ‘face-map’. That sounds a lot more reliable, if you ask me. Curious what the location of your pimples says about your health? I'll fill you in.

Forehead
Unfortunately, a very common place where we all encounter a pimple at some point. And there is a reason for that. According to facemapping, the forehead is linked to our bladder and digestion. You can already feel the storm coming: it really is time to eat healthier and drink more water. But fortunately, that's not the only solution. Giving yourself more sleep and less stress can also make a big difference.

Eyebrows
That little spot between your eyebrows remains a tricky area for an acne-prone skin. If a pimple appears there, it's often not a small one. And that has to do with your liver. Your liver has a detox role, so all toxins from negative emotions or a poor diet can cause a lot of trouble in that spot. Therefore, it's best to avoid too much alcohol, fatty foods, and late-night snacking, no matter how difficult that sometimes is.

Nose
Your nose is quite an interesting area. The left side corresponds to the left side of your heart, and the right side of your nose represents the right side of the heart. If something is wrong there, such as blockages, this could manifest on your nose through redness or blackheads. Do you suffer more from an oily nose and pimples? Then check your cholesterol levels and blood pressure. They might need to be a bit lower.

Cheek
Your cheeks are linked to something completely different: your respiratory system. And it's not about how you breathe in and out, but about smoking and allergies. These increase the chances of broken blood vessels and hyperpigmentation. But pimples on the cheeks can also be a result of bacteria. A dirty pillowcase or a phone against your cheek is something you should avoid. Small tip: wash your pillowcase every two days. You sleep on one side the first night and use the other side the second night. Then straight into the wash.

Mouth
A pimple on your lip is one of the most annoying places there is. You feel like everyone notices it, and tears come to your eyes when you try to squeeze it out. Don't do it. Pimples in this area can come externally from oily lip products and fatty foods, but they can also come from within due to a hormonal imbalance. You not only get more pimples, but also extra hair growth and pigmentation. I don't know which is worse.

Chin
That colony in the middle of your chin? You can thank your small intestine for that. If you have dietary issues or allergies (lactose intolerance, etc.), you might want to stock up on an extra tube of concealer to cover that chin. Furthermore, old makeup residues and bacteria also play a role. You'll see that people with office jobs often get pimples on their chin more than those who work with their hands.

Neck and throat
If you experience a lot of stress for a period, a whole bunch of extra hormones are released, including adrenaline. This can cause redness in the neck and throat. But those skin problems can also be a cry for help to switch perfumes.

Jawline
After a (postponed) visit to the dentist, it is very normal for the area around your jawline to be a bit more restless. However, it can also have to do with your hormones. Yes, sorry, those annoying hormones again, but they are unavoidable. Research has shown that acne on the jawline of women gets worse just before menstruation. As if that pain isn't bad enough, we also get impurities on top of that. Gotta love being a woman.
