Threads is finally available to use in the Netherlands

By

Fiiiiinally. We finally have a genuinely good alternative to Twitter/X, because if we're being completely honest: it had become a bit of the drain of the internet for quite some time. Especially since Elon Musk took the helm (and Donald Trump was welcomed back), the platform hasn't really been what it used to be, and users are dropping off in droves. So it's the perfect moment to step in with Mark Zuckerberg and Threads, a new app from Instagram that is basically just the same as Twitter, but with a different layout.

The annoying thing was that Threads was made available to the whole world, except for the Netherlands. This was due to all the privacy regulations in Europe; Instagram decided to postpone the launch of Threads for a while longer, so we in the Netherlands had to be patient.

But then suddenly there was that clock on the Threads site, counting down to twelve o'clock this afternoon. Yes indeed: finally, Threads is also available in the Netherlands and I am already a fan. I was never really into tweeting, but who knows, I might become a real Thread’er. I see many people signing up already, and that while the platform has only been online for a few hours. It's really nice that it's also very easy to sign up; if all goes well, there is now an option in your Instagram app to click through to Threads when you click on the three lines at the top right of your profile.

By the way, you don't need an Instagram or Threads account to see all the posts from public profiles. A bit like Twitter was in its heyday; ideal.
