Tip for a weekend getaway: sleeping in a wine barrel

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best tip in ages: a weekend away in your own country, in a wine barrel. Sorry, but what more could you want? Especially now that the days are getting shorter, the temperature lower, and the weather grayer, I really need to look forward to fun outings. A weekend away in your own country definitely belongs on that list.

Sleeping in a wine barrel is also a must for any wine lover. At Hotel de Vrouwe van Stavoren in Stavoren (Friesland) you can spend the night in a gigantic wine barrel that can hold 23,000 liters or a smaller one of 15,000 liters. You are also right by the IJsselmeer, and the hotel has a restaurant: guaranteed enjoyment.

But if you want to have it all just right, you take the Wine Barrel Wellness Royal Sauna (or the Wine Barrel Wellness Twins Sauna, which is even a bit larger), where you can enjoy your own sauna with a duo-relax bench, a shower with sunshower, an indoor jacuzzi (how fun is that?) and an infrared steam cabin. Upon arrival, the floor is already nicely preheated and a bottle of wine is ready for you.

In other words: the perfect outing with your lover, or to do with friends. It sounds like a funny gimmick, sleeping in a wine barrel, but these barrels are genuinely spacious and beautifully decorated. I'm going to book right away.
