A new Christmas series is on Netflix today

Every year I think it can't get worse, but it exceeds my expectations every year: the number of Christmas movies on Netflix increases year by year. And of course, it makes sense, because we just watch the latest additions year after year. Look at Love Actually: it came out in 2003 and since then we watch it every December again (and sometimes just in the summer). But I have also watched Christmas movies from last year like Love Hard again this year. Okay, I've just watched so many that I have nothing left. This new addition today is therefore very welcome.

Yoh! Christmas is now online and what I find really great about it: it is a South African Netflix production. Then you would think it is not so over the top American, which is somewhat true, but over the top South African is at least just as extra and it is really great fun.

In Yoh! Christmas, Thando has been struggling with Christmas for years, because her family keeps asking ‘when she will bring home a boyfriend’. This is — logically — getting on her nerves and therefore she decides to go for a little white lie. A month before Christmas, she blurts out that she has a boyfriend. Yes, really. Her family is in shock, and so is she, because she is as single as can be and has now made false promises. That family wants to meet that man, after all.

And so Thando has 24 days to find a new love, resulting in many terrible dates. It is a delightful feel-good series with genuinely funny moments; a big recommendation.
