Elafonissi Beach Greece

How nice for all your vacation photos, girls? A pink beach. And no, you don't have to fly halfway around the world for it. Because a beautiful pink beach, you can find that right in Europe.

You just need to know where exactly to be.

Well, go to Greece. Elafonissi Beach, located at the southwestern tip of the Greek island of Crete, is known for its enchanting pink sand. This natural wonder is one of the few places in the world where the sand truly has a beautiful pink hue. The contrast between the pink sand and the turquoise water creates a magical view, making the beach look like it came straight out of an Instagram filter. How does the sand get so pink? The pink color of the sand is caused by the thousands of broken shells and coral particles washed ashore by the sea. Combined with the white sand grains, it creates the striking pink hue that makes this beach so special. A remarkable phenomenon, indeed. And it looks stunning.

Okay, how do you get there? Elafonissi Beach is about 75 kilometers from Chania, one of the largest cities on Crete. The drive to the beach is an adventure in itself: you drive through picturesque mountain landscapes and along impressive gorges. You can rent a car and drive to Elafonissi in about 1.5 to 2 hours, or you can join an organized tour. Our tip: go early in the morning, because by late afternoon it gets crowded and there's no more space for your pink towel.

The best time to visit Elafonissi Beach is between May and October, when the temperatures are pleasantly warm and the water is lovely for swimming. Now the only question is… When are you and your girlfriends going? Are you going to catch the autumn – last minute – or just enjoy next year in the spring? You decide… And don't forget your pink bikini, okay.
