It might be a bit odd, but the man who pulls me through the gym funnel twice a week is also always my hospitality souffleur. He trains all kinds of nice creatures from Amsterdam and loves a good glass of wine, so leave it to Richard to tell you where to be.
His latest tip: Fitz’s Bar in the Pillows Hotel in Amsterdam East.
The bar looks amazing anyway and is exactly how you want it on a lazy Friday afternoon. It's cozy, nicely dark, and there are soft, velvet armchairs. According to Richard, the bartender has been named one of the best cocktail makers in Europe, and recently there was even an exchange with Little Red Door, one of the best cocktail bars in Paris.
Nick Vrielink, the bar manager, for example, won the National Bartender Club Competition. His signature cocktail? The Essence No. 5. As a CHANEL lover I think I will try that next week (I'll be there by coincidence).
And this bar belongs to the Pillows Hotel, where it is definitely nice to stay. Beautiful rooms, valet parking, and the most delicious scented candles I have ever smelled.
