Botox for beginners: here your face doesn't change

By

Daring to go out without makeup was once my goal. I struggled quite a bit with rosacea and had to work hard with primers and foundations before I even dared to leave my bedroom. Thanks to various treatments, especially laser treatments, I have managed to get that rosacea under control, but the desire to go out with as little makeup as possible has only grown. When the basics (skin, hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes) are well taken care of, you don't need much more.

That’s why I was particularly curious about the Mesobo-tox treatment from the Soap Treatment Store. My old beauty colleague Jessica works there now and told me about the treatment and the patent that Doctors at Soap (their medical-cosmetic branch) have applied for.

The principle is simple and brilliant. First, your skin is peeled with glycolic acid. Then they make a personalized blend of botox and hyaluronic acid and inject it into the skin using small needles (microneedling). Ideal if you are afraid that botox will change your expression, because this is an overall ‘layer’ that is distributed over your entire face. The result? A more relaxed face and an enormous glow.

The treatment
I underwent it at the branch in Haarlem, with a particularly friendly skin therapist. I don’t find it painful, but it’s not exactly pleasant either. You can feel the needles working in the epidermis, and afterwards your face may look a bit red. I didn’t have any issues with that, by the way. Furthermore, you are not allowed to exercise for the first 24 hours, but after that, you are free to go.

The result
I am extremely critical of myself, but I think I actually look quite good. My skin is glowing and feels nice and tight. I would really recommend it to everyone, especially to those who still have a bit of a fear of botox. You can have the treatment every three months, so I’m already booking it again for later. Ideal, just before the summer vacation.

What does it cost?
The treatment costs €350,- and can be done at various Soap branches.
