You have people who are quite happy with the gym and you have people like me: who go occasionally because they have to. Because it’s healthy, yes yes, we know that. So we do go, but never really with much passion and enthusiasm. Now I’ve discovered something since I occasionally dare to walk into my gym. One machine has suddenly become incredibly popular.

With this, you primarily train your glutes. There are seriously people waiting for it to become available. It’s about the stairs. Yes, stair climbing. And then preferably do an exercise where you also swing your legs back and take big steps of two stairs at a time. And oh yes, also walk sideways and do a crossover step, all while climbing stairs.

You also burn quite a few calories with it. A rough estimate is that you burn about 0.17 calories per kilogram of body weight for each stair you climb. So if you weigh, for example, 68 kilograms and you climb 100 stairs, you would burn about 1156 calories (0.17 x 68 x 100 = 1156). That’s a lot. And you don’t just climb a hundred stairs, but with a 14-minute exercise on the stairs, you’ll definitely reach a third of this. You’ll climb about 30 stairs. That’s a nice bonus, right?
