Give me your socks and I can tell you how old you are

By

Yes, it's true these days that your socks give away your age. Are you older than, say, the average millenial? Then you have tiny socks. Those low ankle pairs, you know the ones. The ones you so don't see in trainers.

And yes, I say trainer on purpose and not ‘trainer’, because ‘trainer’ is very old school. You really can't say that in 2024, unless you're a boomer from the 1970s.

OK, those socks, then. So now I can see how old you are, because are you the generation after the millenials? Gen Z? So then you wear high socks: preferably with an expensive brand's logo. Sports socks you see everywhere, in other words. They are allowed again, indeed: are you young, hip and fabulous? Then you wear high socks over everything.

Baby boomers prefer simple, functional socks. Black, white, grey, and navy blue are common colours. They often choose high-quality socks, without too many frills. But: they do hide them, if possible. Millennials too. Generation Z sees socks as an extension of their outfit. Long socks, often with eye-catching prints or brands, are worn with trainers and shorts, even in colder months. In addition, sporty socks with logos are very popular. So show off that sock. And anyone who hides it is old in their eyes. Sorry.
