The 2024 Golden Globes: ‘Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift look otherworldly’

Yesterday (or for us last night) it happened: the first award show of 2024 took place. The Golden Globes are also known as the precursors to the Oscars, as the big winners often take home that coveted Oscar statuette. So we already have a pretty good indication of what will happen on March 11 (when the Oscars take place), but besides that, yesterday was of course all glitter and glamour. And yes, the first gossip is already in, and I will of course go through that with you.
The Golden Globes themselves are from eight to ten in the evening (in Los Angeles, so American time), but the red carpet is rolled out much earlier. With so many celebrities present, time is taken every year; the first people arrive around three in the afternoon. The most important celebs are of course allowed to arrive as late as possible.
And on the red carpet, the first interviews are already being conducted, of which I found one particularly special this year, namely the one with Jennifer Lopez. She was there with her husband Ben Affleck, as he was nominated. Together with his best friend and colleague Matt Damon, they could win an award for Air, about Nike. Affleck played Phil Knight in it, the co-founder of the brand, and Damon played Sonny Vaccaro, the sports marketing executive.
Jennifer Lopez looked stunning in a powder pink dress by Nicole + Felicia Couture, which was made especially for her. The star is now 54, but seems to get more beautiful with each passing year — she really looked gorgeous. Interestingly, a journalist from Variety decided to take a completely different approach: he asked her how Jennifer can know ‘that this will really be her last marriage.’ A bizarre question if you ask me, and actually downright rude, but Jennifer did not let it throw her off and remained polite — and even answered the question. ‘Because it is what they say: when you know, you know. And other times when you didn't know... You really didn't know.’ And then she added with a laugh: ‘I think you always go in with the best intentions, every time you dive into something.’ Hats off to her for handling the weirdest question of the evening so smoothly.
Most eyes were perhaps on Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, who attended an award show together for the first time as a couple. Chalamet was nominated for his role in Wonka, but lost to Paul Giamatti for his role in The Holdovers.
The two did not walk the red carpet together, but sat at the table next to each other and were often spotted intimately there. Honestly: I really like this new Kylie Jenner; she looks happy and radiates much more than when she was still with Travis Scott. On the other side of her sat Jennifer Lawrence, and given that she has been a fan of the Kardashians' reality series for years, that must have been fun too.

However, things went wrong for Kylie and Timothée as the rumors suggest. Selena Gomez (who also looked amazing in an asymmetrical dress by Giorgio Armani) reportedly asked Timothée to take a selfie together, but Kylie did not want that and so the party did not happen. Selena then told this to her bestie Taylor Swift, who was also present, and this was overheard by bystanders. For now, this is just a rumor, as there is no evidence provided for this yet — and it seems a bit far-fetched to me.
But then the big winner of the evening: it ultimately became Oppenheimer. It won the award for best film and best director, and actor Cillian Murphy went home with the award for best actor in the film, just like Robert Downey Jr. — who received it for Best Supporting Actor. Also, when it comes to the best original score, Oppenheimer took home the win.
And Barbie then? It was nominated nine times but won ‘only’ twice. Once for best original song (‘What Was I Made For?’ by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell) and for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which I think is just another term for which film made the most revenue.
This year, the Golden Globes focused not only on films but also on series for the first time. A nice addition if you ask me, as in recent years we have been treated to amazing (mini-)series more and more. Succession was the biggest winner in the drama category, and The Bear took home the win in comedy. And those two series were also the two biggest winners; in almost every category, they took home the win. Furthermore, Beef also won some awards, and The Crown.
Then on to the last, but perhaps the most fun part: the outfits. One more beautiful than the other if you ask me, but there were again some beautiful looks on the red carpet.
