Netflix removal alert

7 movies you need to watch quickly

By

In June, Netflix is coming back with all sorts of goodies, but unfortunately, it also means that a few gems will be disappearing. If you haven't seen them yet, I would say: tonight is the night. Get on the couch and binge.

1. The House of the Spirits
Just for the actors, you have to see this movie. Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Glenn Close, Winona Ryder, Antonio Banderas, and Vanessa Redgrave in an adaptation of a book by Isabel Allende. I saw it years ago and I remember that the mother of the house hadn't spoken to her husband for seven years. Now that's some serious anger. But it's a beautiful film about three generations of a Chilean family.

2. I Wanna Dance with Somebody
A film about the life of Whitney Houston, so close and exactly as you would expect her life to have looked. From her flirtations with women, the violent relationship between her father and mother, Bobby Brown proposing to her in the backseat of a taxi after she accuses him of infidelity (at least, that's how I remember it and I thought it was a fantastic movie), her father financially draining her and ultimately the scene where she makes her daughter wait in the hotel room while she brings her coke dealer to the lobby. Really fantastically acted, where you almost forget that you're not looking at the real Whitney. At least, that's how I felt.

3. Closer
Just for the music alone, you should see this movie. Again, a star-studded cast with Julia Roberts, Sienna Miller, Jude Law, and so on. A film about complex love and infidelity. A story that won't let you go and can also spark discussion with your fellow viewers.

4. Pretty Woman
The classic with Julia Robertsand Richard Gere. Just delightful to watch again, because it's one big aha experience.

5. When I Saw You
The adaptation of the book by Isa Hoes about the life of her husband Antonie Kamerling and their special love.

6. Pulp Fiction
The masterpiece by Quentin Tarantino with Uma Thurman and John Travolta and the best playlist ever.

7. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Bruno is 8 years old when he moves to Auschwitz because of his father's job, where his father is going to do ‘important work’. Bruno thinks that the people on the other side of the high fence are farmers working on a big farm. He mistakes their work clothes for striped pyjamas.
