So fun: this is the story behind Julia Roberts‘ Notting Hill ’standing in front of a boy’ outfit

Although this film is from 1999, Notting Hill is still one of our favorite films that gets played on repeat at least twice a year. Iconically romantic with a perfect dose of humor it is. And our favorite scene? There's a good chance that, just like ours, it’s the moment when Julia Roberts as Anna Scott stands in William Thacker's bookstore in the London district of Notting Hill and says: “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” And what turns out? Behind the look of Julia Roberts as Hollywood actress Anna Scott lies quite a funny story. It turns out that Julia had a strong aversion to dressing like a movie star in Notting Hill and decided to take styling into her own hands. She shares in her cover interview with British Vogue that she arrived on set the day of filming in her own clothes: a baby blue V-neck T-shirt and a matching knitted cardigan, a blue velvet mini skirt, and black-and-white flip-flops. “I sent my driver back to my house that morning. I said, ‘Go to my bedroom and grab these specific items from my closet,’” she recounts about the clothes her character Anna wore during the scene.

Look, we already knew it, but this proves a little extra that Julia Roberts has not only been an acting queen since way back, but also that her fashion choices have always been trendsetting.
