Proven: men are twice as likely to be involved in car accidents

woman and man in the car

Women behind the wheel; it is often the subject of a joke. Yes, we women would not be the best drivers. Now I must honestly admit that this is indeed true in my case, but that is of course not standard. Far from it, because Interpolis announced that it is actually the men who are known to be the reckless drivers.

According to this insurer, men are involved in car accidents twice as often as women. These are serious traffic accidents, but also smaller incidents such as a collision because priority was not given. And it gets worse: men also indicated that they have had a near-miss more often than women.

Interpolis conducted extensive research into the driving behavior of men and women, and more interesting results came out: women generally make better choices in traffic. For example, women adapt better and drive more consciously, they prefer to detour if they do not fully trust the situation, and they are less quick to park in a spot that might be a bit tight.

Men, on the other hand, drive consciously less safely; they tend to deliberately drive faster than the allowed maximum speed and are quicker to become aggressive towards other road users. What I find funny is that generally men consider themselves to be the better driver. And that is actually not justified at all, because we women are indeed a lot safer in traffic. Again, this is absolutely not about me because I am really a clumsy driver, but I am apparently the exception and not the rule. That is nice again.
