Should you really worry about a gel polish allergy?

It's no secret that I look forward to my appointments with my nail stylist every time. I've been visiting the nail salon every month for over 10 years now. It started with single color, but now I know that it is extra festive when you let your nails be transformed into little works of art. This way, not only are you happy with your well-groomed look, but you also receive compliments about your nails continuously. It's my three-weekly mani-insta story, I just have to share what my nail stylist has achieved again with her mini brush, painting as if my nails are little canvases.

And suddenly, everyone is talking about gel polish allergy

Of course, I have also noticed that suddenly the whole world seems to be suffering from allergic reactions to gel polish. And that it exists, there is no arguing about that. But before we all rush to the nail salon to have our polishes removed, it's important to gather a bit more information. Nowadays, it often happens that when an influencer shares something, the world seems to turn upside down. But just as not everyone has a nut allergy, not everyone is sensitive to a gel polish allergy.

A few tips from the nail stylists themselves

As with every treatment you undergo, it is super important to go for quality, and not for the cheapest option. When you go to the hairdresser, you also don't want to be cut unevenly, and when it comes to your nails, you should see it the same way. Just like with masseurs, you don't need a specific education to treat people. But if you book at a more expensive salon, the quality will also be better. There's a good chance that you will have someone who really knows what they are doing and has indeed followed some kind of training. Nail salons work with products that are simply not developed to boost your health, but if you handle them correctly, they don't have to be detrimental to your health. One important rule is quite simple: the polish must be on the nail, and not on the skin. Additionally, the care of the skin around your nails is also important. Does your stylist use a nourishing oil after the treatment? Foils for removing the old polish instead of the old-fashioned bowls full of acetone to soak your fingers in? Is there good filing without leaving wounds?

So it's actually very simple

Me-time should be relaxing. So if you invest a little extra in a good nail salon, instead of the budget version on the corner, you not only get beautiful, healthy nails, but also a psychologist at your disposal. So especially look at your own hands, instead of just accepting the health advice from influencers. And that is super important in every respect.
