This is how long you can leave your cat home alone (and it's shorter than you think)

Are you going on vacation and thinking: oh, I'll just put down some extra cat food and water and leave my cat home alone? That can be shorter than you think. Cats definitely cannot stay home alone for very long.
Cats need fresh food and clean water daily. While automatic feeders and water dispensers can provide a temporary solution, they cannot replace personal attention and care. The litter box must be cleaned regularly to prevent the cat from urinating elsewhere in the house. Cats are clean animals and will often avoid a dirty litter box – even after just one day. Although cats are independent, they need social contact to avoid feeling lonely and neglected. Interaction with their owner or other pets is essential for their mental well-being. And you never know what happens when you're away. Your cat could suddenly get sick or have an accident, and then you wouldn't know anything.
And so this is the unwritten rule. Most experts agree that cats should not be left alone for more than 24 hours. Ideally, this period should even be shorter, around 8-12 hours. So you can't just leave for a few days and think: everything will be fine at home. Your cat needs attention and care, even if your cat is always outside and lives outdoors. There are plenty of owners who go on vacation for a week and leave their fluffy friend at home with just some extra food. We find that sad. Don't do it. Ask someone to take care of your cat or at least someone to feed your cat every day, give fresh water, and check if everything is okay. And to pet them, that too.
