The 6 sentences that every narcissist uses

Sometimes people make fun of those with narcissistic traits. But what if you are really dealing with a narcissist? It's not only deadly exhausting, but it can cost you buckets of energy that you'd rather save for yourself. Narcissists can manipulate you and make you doubt yourself, often without you realizing it at first. Psychologists warn us about these six phrases that narcissists love to use. This way, you can better arm yourself against their manipulative games.
‘You are exaggerating so much’
A discussion with a narcissist rarely goes smoothly. There's a good chance that when you bring up your feelings or disagree, you'll immediately get it thrown back at you with a sneer like: “You are exaggerating” or “You are too sensitive.” They deflect their responsibility and make you doubt yourself. Before you know it, you even start to believe that you are asking too much of them.
‘Why do I always get the blame?’
Narcissists are masters at playing the victim. They rarely see themselves as the cause of a problem and always project it onto others. Phrases like: “I can't believe you are attacking me like this,” or “Whatever I do, it's never good enough for you,” are things you will hear them say regularly. By portraying themselves as the victim, they manipulate the situation in such a way that it seems like you are in the wrong, while they maintain control in the meantime.
‘You don't understand me’
This is a classic that is often used when you are trying to make a point. As soon as you bring something up, narcissists turn the conversation around with: “You don't understand me.” This creates distance and undermines your perspective. The problem suddenly becomes a matter of your inability to understand them, while they take zero responsibility for their own behavior.
‘Everyone is against me’
A narcissist can make it seem like the whole world is conspiring against them. This makes you feel guilty and see them as the underdog. “Everyone is against me” or “I can't trust anyone” are phrases they use to elicit your sympathy, making you seem like the only one who still understands them. This is a tactic to bind you to them while simultaneously excluding others.
‘You are just jealous’
A narcissist always wants to be on top, and if you criticize them or raise questions, their response is often: “You are just jealous.” This dismisses your criticism as envy. The goal is to make you feel inferior while they place themselves on a pedestal.
‘I never said that’
Gaslighting 101. When you confront them with something they said or did, they will claim with a straight face: “I never said that.” They completely change reality and confuse you in the process.
