The new James Bond has finally been chosen
Fun detail: his wife is 24 years older
It was unclear for a long time who would take over from Daniel Craig, in my opinion one of the more layered and sexier James Bonds. I need to get used to him, but he has grabbed me, precisely because he wasn't such a stereotypical handsome man. First, there was talk of a female James Bond, then Idris Elba was mentioned as a serious candidate. That didn't happen because he supposedly dropped out due to negative reactions about his racial background. It was more about him being a man of color than about his acting performances, and that ultimately held him back.
But now he seems to have been chosen. It took longer than choosing a new pope or forming a Dutch cabinet, and the ink on the contract is not yet dry. Moreover, the signature still needs to be put down. But the contract is on the desk of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. We know him from his masterful role in Nocturnal Animals (for which he won a Golden Globe) and from the films Tenet and Bullet Train. At least, that's where you might know him from.
He is married to filmmaker Sam Taylor Wood, whom he met on a film set in 2009. He was 18, she was 42. They have two daughters.
