The Tatta’s are back
But something significant has changed

My viewing history lately consists of two things: thrillers and Christmas movies. A bit of variety is therefore welcome. That wish seems to have been heard, Prime Video is coming today with their latest comedy. After two successful films, the Tatta's are back with their own series. The Van Kampen family is still struggling with financial problems and is, in their own way, looking for solutions.
The Tatta's
Let's refresh our memory. In ‘The Tatta's’, the wealthy Van Kampen family ends up in financial trouble after a failed investment by father Erik (Leo Alkemade). All their luxury disappears and they are forced to move to a small apartment in the multicultural Hollandwijk. This new life takes some getting used to and all their prejudices stand in the way of the family. Only when they truly open up do they discover that money does not bring happiness and that the close-knit community in the neighborhood is worth much more. In ‘The Tatta's: the series’, the Van Kampens have now settled in quite well, but the dreaded blue envelopes are still landing on the doormat. The family will therefore have to get to work to earn money.
Everyone helps out
Father Erik is no longer the only breadwinner in the family. Mother Laura (Elisa Beuger) trades being a stay-at-home mom for working life. That is not the only change surrounding Laura. In the films, this role was played by Leonie ter Braak. But due to her commitments at RTL, she could not participate in the series. Something that she - and we - find very unfortunate; although Elisa does just as well. The children Jessica (Sterre Koning) and Daan (Sem van der Horst) will also have to face it: their first job. Daan is going to ‘hustle’ in the neighborhood with the help of his buddies, and Jessica is starting to work in the Surinamese Toko. The children really have to grow up now, which also means learning to save and getting their driver's license. A big change, but fortunately, the Hollandwijk is still there for them. Where in the movies the focus was on the family as a whole, there is now much more attention for the individual family members and their personal struggles. Knowing the Van Kampen family, they will deal with this in their own creative way. That promises something.
